Leaving Computers On Helps Them Last Longer: Scientific American

Leaving Computers On Helps Them Last Longer: Scientific American
Of course, the importance of whether to power down or put your computer to sleep depends a lot on how much you use it. If you spend 20 minutes each night reviewing your e-mail, it's a waste of energy to leave your PC on all day. If you're continually on your computer, or go back several times a day, it's best to leave it in sleep mode between sessions. Another variable is the efficiency of the PC's processor. Slower ones use less energy but have to work longer and harder than more powerful CPUs. "It's like a car," Bosley says, "you can't talk about gas mileage without talking about the vehicle's performance."

Vietnamsese Language

Vietnamsese Language (Wikipedia

Vietnamese, like many languages in Southeast Asia and Chinese, is an analytic (or isolating) language. As such its grammar highly relies on word order and sentence structure rather than morphology (in which word changes through inflection). Whereas European languages tend to use morphology to express tense, Vietnamese uses grammatical particles or syntactic constructions.

Vietnamese is often erroneously considered to be a "monosyllabic" language. It is true that Vietnamese has many words that consist of only one syllable; however, most words are indeed disyllabic. This is largely because of the many reduplication words that appear in household vocabulary, or adjectives. More accurately, most free morphemes are monosyllabic.

Vietnamese syntax conforms to the Subject Verb Object word order.

* Note: mention the two layers of Chinese borrowings at different time periods
* mention other languages (with examples)

As a result of a thousand years of Chinese domination, much of Vietnamese vocabulary relating to science and politics are derived from Chinese. As much as 60% of the vocabulary have Chinese roots, although many compound words are Sino-Vietnamese, composed of native Vietnamese words combined with the Chinese borrowings. Reduplication is a regular part of the language that usually denotes intensity. One can usually distinguish between a native Vietnamese word and a Chinese borrowing if it can be reduplicated or its meaning doesn't change when the tone is shifted. As a result of French colonization, Vietnamese also has words borrowed from the French language. Recently many words are borrowed from English, for example TV (pronounced tivi), phông for font. Sometimes these borrowings are calques literally translated into Vietnamese (phần mềm for software, lit. soft part).

The people of Vietnam speak Vietnamese as a native language. In its early history, Vietnamese writing used Chinese characters. In the 13th century, the Vietnamese developed their own set of characters called Chữ nôm. The celebrated epic Đoạn trường tân thanh (Truyện Kiều or The Tale of Kieu) by Nguyễn Du was written in Chữ nôm. During the French colonial period, Quốc ngữ, the romanized Vietnamese alphabet used for spoken Vietnamese, which was developed in 17th century by Jesuit Alexandre De Rhodes and several other Catholic missionaries, became popular and brought literacy to the masses.

Children can learn various words by reading. I like reading. I learned how to read difficult Kanji by reading. I think children should read and read books.

Stupid of me! 2

The next day, I went to a bookstore near my house, and bought several books and comics.

After reading the comics, which satisfied me, I noticed these two books.

"What ARE they?"

I didn't even know I bought those books! What happened?

I remembered I put the books I had selected on the books displayed flat so that I could take a look at other books using my both hands. When I finally selected the last book, I just put it on the books I had selected before, and I was so careless that I lifted not only what I wanted but also what I didn't want.

I was't interested in them at all and I didn't even open them...

I'll never do that again!!!

... even those foreigners who recover from their initial astonishment to awaken to the pleasures of manga are often still puzzled by the genre of girls comics, or shojo manga. It seems that it is hard for foreigners to grasp the idea of a special genre of manga written for women readers, focusing on love stories, and executed in a unique style.

Broadly speaking, shojo manga share the following characteristics.

People of various type live in the neighborhood of my house.
The young couple lives in front of my house, and they have a Toy Poodle as a pet. When I leave home for part-time job, a wife of that couple just takes the dog for a walk. The dog approach me itself at the time, so I pet the dog. That dog is small and very pretty. That dog and its master are agreeable, so I have good impression toward them. As often as I see that dog, I want to have a Toy Poodle.

If a person catch a cold, then he or she has a hard time.

I have had a cold for two days. I take a medicine twice a day, but my condition doesn't take a turn for the better. I can't taste anything, so though I eat delicious food eating isn't fun. I like to eat therefore that condition is very sad for me. I wish I recovers from cold completely soon.

I am afraid of bees because they have a venom stitch. I have read the article that a person got stung by a bee and died. I listen to a story like it, then I have realization that bees are dreadful insect. I got the information that wasps come near to a person who puts on black clothes, at the TV. Also, they react to smell of perfume. I usually don't wear a perfume, but I often wear black clothes. Thus I must not wear black clothes, when I go on a hike to the mountain where there are bees. The character of bees is really terrible.

My favorite bakery

The bakery that I recommend is Jizoya. Jizoya is in Rokko. I eat a bread of Jizoya every morning. My house is far from Jizoya, so I get breads delivered to my house. A bread of Jizoya is soft and tasty. Jizoya took part in a fair what delicious foods of the whole country gathered. That fair was held at SOGO last month. A storekeeper was saying that breads were sold out in 10 minutes. People who ate a bread of Jizoya all will become liked it. I like a bread of Jizoya very much.

I'm sorry ...

I've invited you as coauthors (共同筆者)of this blog, so as soon as you accept my invitation(招待を承諾するとすぐ), you can start posting to the blog.

I said in class that you can post from your cell phones, but I've found that only the owner - me, in this case - can do that, and co-authors can NOT. I'm sorry :-(

If you're interested in posting fron your mobile phones, then you should create your own blog. It's simple and I can help you.
